What´s the matter? - Consequences of the crash during the last lap

Our Road Riding Guide Mathias Nothegger won the Masters 30 category in the cross country MTB race in Ingenio on his Cannondale Flash HI-Mod 2 in only 1:46:59!

Less than a minute behind, Nestor Rodriguez of team Bike Bike Natural CC, secured second place. Third place on the podium was occupied by Alberto Deniz (Club Arubike Ciclista) with a time of 1:49:18.

The race on 27th of June in Ingenio was the fourth of a total of seven races in the Canary XC Series. Racers had to do 5 laps on a challenging 5,5 km circuit, “overall a very selective and nice track”, said Mathias.

Immediately after the start our Free Motion Guide took over the leadership of the group (as usual) and defended this position during the entire circuit, climbing two long passages and three technically challenging singletrack sections, consisting of stones and deep sand. The 75 participants had to struggle against strong wind, especially on the flat parts of the track. This was no problem at all for our “wind shield" Mathias.

Despite a crash in the last round, Mathias secured the race in the Masters 30 category for himself. He only slipped one spot in the overall ranking from 6th to 7th, as Oliver Medina from Team Bike Bike Natural CC passed him while he crashed.

This coming weekend in Santa Brigida will already be the next race of the Cross Country Series (starting at 16:00 h). Mathias will surely participate and defend his title.
